Junior Room

The Junior Room has 16 spaces for children 2 ½ to 3 ½  years of age with three Registered Early Childhood Educators. There are some months depending on space and movement in the other rooms that our age range will be 2 to 3 years of age with only 15 children in the room.

Our program is based on the philosophy of learning through play, with the implementation of activities, which support the children’s interests and development. We plan according to the Emergent Curriculum, as we follow the children’s lead when implementing activities and setting up the room. This is done through daily observations of interactions between the children and the children and teachers. Through our observations, we make decisions on what will best motivate the children’s learning. We follow the children’s lead by introducing new and exciting activities to expand their interests and learning.

We hold parent/teacher meetings twice a year. They are in October/November and April/May. These meetings give the teachers and parents an opportunity to sit down to discuss the program and the goals for your child in the Junior Room. These meetings also help the teachers to learn about your child’s life at home and to bridge the gap between home and school.

Our daily schedule consists of free play time, educator guided activities, outdoor play, meal times and nap time. Each day, the teachers will fill out a daily communication form letting you know how your child ate and slept that day along with a summary of daily activities.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Junior Room and working together to give them the best learning opportunities we can. It is a joint effort between parents and teachers.
